RTMP

What is RTMP?

RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) is a streaming protocol designed for transmitting audio, video, and data over the internet with low latency. Originally developed by Macromedia (now Adobe) for Flash-based applications, RTMP enables live streaming and on-demand media delivery by maintaining a persistent connection between the client and server. It supports adaptive bitrate streaming and is widely used for broadcasting live video to platforms like YouTube, Facebook Live, and Twitch. While Flash is obsolete, RTMP remains a common protocol for ingesting live streams before transcoding them into modern streaming formats such as HLS or DASH.
