5G RAN

What is 5G RAN?

5G RAN (Radio Access Network) refers to the portion of a 5G network that connects user devices (such as smartphones, IoT devices, and connected wearables) to the core network via radio signals. It consists of radio units (RUs), distributed units (DUs), and centralized units (CUs) that manage signal transmission, processing, and network control.

5G RAN enables high-speed, low-latency, and high-capacity wireless communication, supporting applications like ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC), massive machine-type communications (mMTC), and enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB). It can be centralized (C-RAN), virtualized (vRAN), or open (O-RAN) to optimize flexibility, efficiency, and interoperability in modern 5G deployments.
