A stream key is a unique alphanumeric code generated by a streaming platform and provided to a broadcaster or encoder. When the encoder sends a live video feed to the platform's ingest server, it includes the stream key in the connection request. The server uses the key to authenticate the sender and route the stream to the correct channel or account. Stream keys should be kept confidential because anyone who has the key can push a stream to that channel.
