H.265, also known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), is the successor to H.264 and achieves approximately twice the compression efficiency at equivalent visual quality. This means a live stream encoded in H.265 requires roughly half the bandwidth of an H.264 stream at the same resolution, making it especially valuable for 4K live streaming or deployments on constrained cellular connections. H.265 is increasingly supported in modern field cameras and streaming hardware.
